1. Poland joins Ukraine-led anti-ballistic missile coalition

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said during a regional summit in western Ukraine that Poland has formally joined a coalition with Ukraine and other partners to develop a cheaper anti-ballistic missile system, intended partly as an alternative to relying exclusively on systems such as Patriot. Tusk also announced a new Polish military-aid package for Ukraine, without giving its value or contents. The announcement came at the inaugural “Carpathian Eight” meeting, bringing together Poland, Ukraine and other central European states around security, energy and transport cooperation. More than 50 agreements worth over €1 billion were signed around the summit.

2. InPost takeover clears its key threshold

A consortium led by FedEx and Advent International has secured tenders for 89.81% of InPost’s shares, comfortably above the 80% minimum condition attached to its takeover offer. The all-cash deal values the Polish parcel-locker company at around €7.8 billion, at €15.60 per share. If completed, InPost is expected to delist from Euronext Amsterdam while retaining its name, management structure and headquarters in Poland.

3. Poland moves in two different directions on same-sex couples

The Sejm failed to override President Karol Nawrocki’s veto of legislation establishing civil partnerships: 232 MPs voted to overturn the veto and 199 opposed, short of the required 259. At the same time, ZUS has begun paying care allowances to same-sex spouses whose foreign marriages have been entered into Poland’s civil registry. Labour Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk said officials are also discussing tax treatment for such couples.

4. Sejm backs Poland–UK defence treaty. MPs voted 392–3, with 20 abstentions, to authorise ratification of the bilateral security and defence treaty. It provides for military assistance in the event of attack and deeper cooperation on NATO’s eastern flank, cybersecurity, drones and defence industry projects.

5. Personal-assistance law passes the Sejm. MPs approved legislation establishing a national system of personal assistance for people with disabilities. The government says it could eventually support about 100,000 people, with adults eligible for up to 240 hours of assistance a month depending on assessed needs. The bill now goes to the Senate.

6. ABW detains two 16-year-olds over extremist networks. Poland’s Internal Security Agency says the teenagers were active in online neo-Nazi and extremist circles. Investigators found racist and antisemitic material as well as content relating to terrorist attacks and mass shootings; the agency is examining how they were radicalised and who else may have been involved.

7. Poznań to service engines for Poland’s K2 tanks. Military Vehicle Works in Poznań has been selected as the domestic engine-servicing centre for Poland’s South Korean-made K2 tanks and associated vehicles. More than 200 K2s have already been delivered, according to the Defence Ministry.

8. Nawrocki begins US visit today. President Karol Nawrocki is due to start a trip to the United States on Saturday and will address the UN General Assembly in New York next week. The visit follows renewed Polish-US discussion about the possibility of a permanent American Army base in Poland.

9. Podkarpackie reviews air-alert procedures. Regional authorities are reviewing how border crossings and schools responded to recent RCB air-threat alerts. Governor Teresa Kubas-Hul is due on Saturday to inspect border crossings and assess possibilities for temporary shelters and improved information procedures.

10. More Germans moving to Poland. German federal statistics cited by Handelsblatt show 4,941 German citizens moved to Poland in 2025, while 1,720 moved back to Germany. The newspaper described Poland as an increasingly attractive destination for German emigrants.
